Description: (Sunset Zone 2-9,14-17,31-41, USDA Zone 5). This maple is native to Europe and western Asia. It forms an especially dense, compact rounded head. Leaves are three to five lobed, two to four inches wide. Normally a small tree with dark green foliage. Leaves are dull green above that turn yellow in fall. Very easy to grow, trunks up fast, leaves reduce nicely, very hardy. Pruned many times to encourage branching.

Basic Care: Grows best in full sun to part shade. Never allow root ball to dry out completely. Protect tree from direct hot summer sun and winter freezes.

Feeding: Fertilize just before and during growing season until autumn. Many brands of fertilizer are available and it is beneficial to use a variety of these. Follow all package instructions.

Repotting: Hedge Maples have a vigorous root system so prune yearly or at least every other year. Older specimens every two to three years. Repot before leaves appear in early spring or after leaves fall in autumn. Correct root pruning is very important and cannot be addressed in a line or two.
