Description :  (Sunset Zone A3,1-10,12,14-24,28,30-44, USDA Zone 5). Deciduous Conifer. This graceful, hardy, deciduous tree is attractive at any season. In fall the light green leaves of spring and summer suddenly turn gold, then linger before dropping all at once. Leaf shape and veining resemble leaflets of maidenhair fern, where it gets its name. These are unsexed seedlings. In general, ginkgos are not bothered by insects or diseases. Truly a living fossil. Native to US millions of years ago. Even after Hiroshima was devastated by nuclear war in W.W.II, yet at ground zero it was the lone re-generating tree the following spring.

Basic Care :  Grows best in full sun to part shade. Never allow root ball to dry out completely. Protect tree from direct hot summer sun and winter freezes. Prune and pinch to encourage side branching.

Feeding :  Fertilize just before and during growing season until autumn about once every two weeks Water soluble fertilizers with trace elements are readily available and easy to use. Many brands are available and it is beneficial to use a variety of these.

Repotting :  Having a vigorous root system, prune yearly or at least every other year. Older specimens every two to three years. Repot before leaves appear in early spring or after leaves fall in autumn. Correct root pruning is very important and cannot be addressed in a line or two.
